Southern Avenue and Meridian Road Widening

Meridian Road in the vicinity of Southern Avenue flooded during storm events rendering the intersection inoperable. The legs of Southern Avenue on either side of Meridian Road were not aligned. A 12 foot offset in through lanes across the intersection significantly reduced the capacity and posed a safety challenge during dark times.
To accommodate over 600 cfs of runoff and eliminate the negative offset in alignment, our team designed drainage and roadway improvements by avoiding costly relocation of a gravity fed sewer line and 69KV overhead power poles. Garnering Stakeholder support was a critical task as this project was on the boundaries of Maricopa County, City of Mesa, Pinal County, and Apache Junction. |
